is there a person in the world who doesn’t want to know how to make their own play dough? well, probably, but they don’t live in this house!

i’ve been looking at a range of different recipes online, to learn as much as i can, and try to come up with a really brilliant one of my own. and i think i’ve done it! this recipe makes a dough that’s smooth, non-sticky, and lovely to play with. trust me. arty and i were rolling, squishing, and poking it for aaaages today!

play dough

2 cups plain flour
2 cups water
4 tsp cream of tartar
1/3 cup table salt
2 tsp canola or olive oil

  • while off the heat, place all ingredients in a medium saucepan, and stir until thoroughly combined
  • place saucepan over medium heat, and stir constantly. the mixture will thicken slowly, and then congeal delightfully into one big lump.
  • place dough onto a chopping board or dinner plate, and press flattish with the back of a spoon. this isn’t a vital step, but it will speed up the cooling time.
  • once dough has cooled, give it a good knead, and get playing!

this activity is super cheap, super easy, and super fun. give it a go!
