If you were a reader of The Crowned Finch, you’ll know I have a fondness for smoothies – green ones, summery ones, figgy ones – I’ll try them all.

Luckily, Arty loves them too, and I find them to be an excellent way to get a good quantity of fresh fruit into him on a regular basis. I also use them to include nuts in his diet. He doesn’t really like to eat nuts as a snack, so smoothies are a good way to ensure that he still benefits from their mineral, healthy fat, and protein content.

 

This particular smoothie has a divinely rich colour, and a substantial quality that makes it an appealing and satisfying treat.

Berrynut smoothie

 

Ingredients
  • 1 cup mixed frozen berries (I used strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries, but any combination will work)
  • 1 cup almond milk (you can use regular milk if you prefer)
  • 2 heaped tbsp almond meal
  • 1 tbsp honey

 

Method
  1. Place all ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth.
  2. Serve immediately.

 

This recipe is dairy-free and can easily be made vegan by substituting a different sweetener for the honey.
