Hello, sweetnesses,

I really, really love keeping travel journals.

I love that they get you recording lots of little details that you’d otherwise forget, and they have you saying “aw, yeah, that’s right, that was awesome!” when you look back through them in the months and years after your trip.

As someone with pretty serious anxiety, I also love the way that they give me something to do with my hands, and a way to shift my focus when I feel stressed or overwhelmed while travelling.

And on top of that, they’re just fun to make.

Making journals and travelogues on big trips is a brilliant idea, and one I wholeheartedly endorse, but I think it’s also really great to make journals for short trips too.

Our trip to Sydney was only for two nights, but we packed so many lovely things into it that I almost filled a full travellers notebook with photos, stories, and ephemera. It was those little details again – the more of them you look out for, the more you see. And being encouraged to do THAT while travelling, enhances the whole experience immensely.

I like to journal as we go, for all those stress-managing moment-capturing reasons I’ve already mentioned.

I finished this journal the day after we returned from our trip, having completed the majority of it while we were away. It was brilliant to come home with a project almost entirely done.

It meant travelling with a little bundle of supplies, but I managed to comfortably fit everything I needed into my handbag, along with all my wallet, phone, and other essentials.

Selecting a few sets of stickers, making a few washi samplers, and cutting down some big pieces of paper before the trip were the key to keeping things portable, and I’ll make a video about that process in future. But right now, here’s a flip through of the completed journal:
