Due to my pathological inability to resist a project, I’ve decided to participate in Ali Edwards’ One Little Word workshop this year.
Well, ok, it’s not just about the new project thing.
I thought this would be a useful companion project to the work I’m doing to get better after my recent bout of major depression. I plan to use it to document my efforts to take care of myself, and hopefully give myself a bit of a framework for being mindful about my wellbeing and goals.
After some brainstorming and deliberation I settled on the word “try”.
It seemed to emphasise effort and hope, without requiring perfection. And that’s what I need. Sometimes, particularly when you’re struggling with sadness and hopelessness, just trying is a huge effort. Just giving something little a go can be a massive victory.
I don’t want to ask myself to get everything right this year, or to achieve wonders.
But I want to challenge myself to show up.
And when I do, who knows what I might end up achieving…
I used: Free printable labels from The Red Wren | “Cross My Heart” from the Cut & Paste range by Amy Tangerine | Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party Delectable Desserts Screen Printed Transperancy | pink hearts cut with this file by Echo Park using my Silhouette Cameo | WRMK 8.5×11 album in buttercup
I think you’ve picked an excellent word and a really great project to use this way!
thank you – it’s working out well for me so far, and i’m excited to keep going with the project.
