Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been going over the results of the Mama Finch reader survey, and using the information you guys shared with me to come up with some plans for the future.
Here’s some new stuff to look forward to:
Book reviews – I’m planning two kinds:
- Mama reads: A roughly monthly book review of something I’ve read about parenting, creativity, feminism, or some combination thereof. If it nourishes, inspires, or makes me think, I’ll tell you about it.
- Arty reads: We love reading together as a family, and we’re building an awesome library of kids’ books, so I thought it would be fun to do another monthly review from Arty and one of his Mamas. I expect Arty’s contributions will be reasonably short and to the point to begin with, but we’ll see how they develop over time. We’ll make a point of keeping our selections diverse and interesting.
Sponsored posts – In the interests of moving towards making this blog a somewhat self sustaining enterprise, I’m going to start doing occasional sponsored posts. I’ve written a very clear set of rules about how this will be executed, because I don’t want this space to become gratuitously commercialised. Sponsored posts will be rare, and they’ll be relevant. If I do my job right they’ll add to Mama Finch rather than detracting from it.
Here’s what’s going to stay the same:
Recipes – I’ll continue to share recipes for the things we eat at home. You won’t see me getting fancy with this, it’ll just be the kinds of things that we make for dinner, or bake for lunchboxes. Everyday home food.
Scrapbooking inspiration – Some of you come here specifically for that, and I like sharing the way I document our lives, so I’ll continue to update you on the papercrafting projects I’m working on.
Craft for kids – I’m going to keep sharing the art and craft projects that Arty and I enjoy. The only thing that’s going to change about this is I’m hoping to include more of them.
Personal and family stories – I’m going to keep you up to date with what’s going on with us. The challenges we face, the things we’re enjoying and learning, and loving and doing. Expect more of this than before.
Some of you even left some beautifully supportive comments like:
“My favourite blog of the couple of hundred in my Feedly. So thoughtful and real and mindful. Blog on!”
“Love your blog! Love your openness and honesty.”
“I love your blog. It is awesome. You are awesome. Yay!”
With encouragement like that, how could I not be inspired!
I want to thank you all again for taking the time to share your thoughts and feedback with me. Now, watch me turn it all into a great blog that you’ll continue to love!
